Last year in the maj. Dhyan chand hockey tournament, it was a case of "near … yet so far" as we ended up runners up. But this year though i did not have the services of 3 girls from the last year team as they finished schooling, and though i had a weaker side, but the grit. determination and gumption shown by the girls was tremendous.
The senior girls – Nisha. Deepika. Nandini Harshada. Aradhana. Pallavi. Sneha were outstanding. The younger girls did not lag behind. Diksha. Priyanka Vaishnavi Shravani madhavi and the others played well too. Our st. Elias girls though small in height and built than those from the other schools, more than matched them with their skill and determination. .
In our 1st game against the Mary Immaculate team we beat them 1-0 with vaishnavi scoring the winner. In the semi-finals we beat Duruelo convent in the tie-breaker 2-1. Deepaka putting up a superb performance under the bar. In the finals we beat St. Teresa convent santacruz 1-0 with Priyanka netting the winner. Playing 3 games in the day and in such hot conditions speaks volumes of these kids. A Very hardworking and dedicated and disciplined bunch of kids. Enjoy training them.
